There’s just so much chocolate tradition around the springtime holidays.  First and foremost, no matter your religion or traditions, we wish you blessings!

Again this year we have all your  favorites on tap….

For Passover there are Chocolate Torahs, Apricots Double Dipped in Chocolate and Chocolate Covered Oreos at JIMMIE’S CHOCOLATES.

Give yourself a reward before you hit the gym. Dark  Chocolate might increase your exercise performance, according to a new study.

University of California researchers gave the most prevalent flavonoid found in cocao, epicatechin*, to a group of mice. Water was given to a second control group of mice.  The mice that enjoyed the cocao flavonoid ran 50% farther and faster in treadmill tests than their control group counterparts.  The experts predict similar results in humans.

Don’t go celebrating with a a 1/2 dozen chocolate dipped pretzels at one time… Dark chocolate is the key.  About two piece of JIMMIE’S solid dark chocolate logos or a couple dark chocolate non-periels will deliver the approximate six grams of epicatechin* you need to reap the benefit.

*Epicatechin is a particularly active member of a group of compounds called plant flavoniods. Flavoniods keep cholesterol from gathering in blood vessels, reduce the risk of blood clots, and slow down the immune responses that lead to clogged arteries. Epicatechin is present in many plants. High quantities can be found in cocoa.

#1 – F/T Retail Sales Associate

Currently we are taking applications for a F/T Retail Sales Associate that has the potential to train for more responsibility within our company.

At minimum the right applicant will….

• Be available to work Evenings and Weekends. Major holidays off. A great retail schedule.
• Be able to work with packaging production as well as guest services.
• A good fit will be a strong sales person that has a creative and/or artsy side.
• We will train the right fit.  Applicant must be willing & able to do basic shoppe cleaning and upkeep.
• Be looking to make a long-term commitment with an eye on advancing.
• Be available to work at either the Dania Beach or Wilton Manors locations.
• Having reliable, insured transportation with working a/c is a must.
• Be able to lift a min. of 25#’s
• Be good with numbers, cash handling and organizing.
• Also have great telephone and writing skills.
• Be exceptional at working with minimal supervision and/or solo. The right applicant will be a self-motivated, dedicated worker with a strong work ethic.
• Be trustworthy, presentable and fluent in English.  Other languages are helpful but not required.

This is a great place to work! We’re looking for dedicated people that want to join a “family” that works hard & plays hard. Only self-started, motivated people need apply.

If you don’t know what we MEAN when we say things like “old school work ethic”, “loyalty”, “commitment”, or “long term” then this might not be the place for you. Posers will be found out quickly!

We offer competitive pay rates, a great working environment and a strong level of stability. Computer skills are helpful but not required.  Applicants with successful past experience in retail supervision or management get preference, but this experience is not required.

#2 – COOK / SOUS CHEF TRAINEE AT JIMMIE’S CAFE
We are a very stable and established, locally owned and operated company with a growing food service portion of our business. In connection with our 64 year old chocolate shoppe we now operate a bistro styled Cafe that features Continental Cuisine cooked with Caribbean flare. We produce amazing products in a unique atmosphere.

We seek a Cook / Sous Chef Trainee to join our team. Ours is a “work hard – play hard” kind of crew that has a passion for doing their very best. We are a small crew with all hands on deck during operation.

Culinary “rock stars” don’t do well with us. Must be ready to be hands on in all phases, glamorous and otherwise.

JOB DUTIES WILL RANGE FROM CLEANING TO GRILLING. Motivated and organized a must.

Only hardworking, presentable, dependable people need apply.

In addition you must know the meaning of having a strong work ethic. We are looking for a long-term teammate seeking opportunities to grow.

YOU MUST have at least one year of line cooking experience.
Recent experience gets preference.

Although helpful, only having culinary school, catering, fast food or banquet experience is not enough.

Shopping Tip: Prepay Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and pick up when you like. This will give you chocolate dipped berries that are the freshest you’ll get anywhere. We us only the best locally grown and sourced strawberries and double dip them in chocolate!

Thrs, 1/26/12, 630 – 9pm: Chocolate & Wine Tasting at Dania Beach Location! Travel through seven different wines expertly paired with JIMMIE’S handmade chocolates.  Only $25 per person! A great night of chocolate & wine is planned with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Water Polo Teams

Tues, 2/14/12: Our annual “Night of Tropical Romance” is once again being planned at JIMMIE’S CAFE.  A decadent three course meal is in the works. Two seating of an amazing prix-fixe meal is planned. Reservations will be required.  Keep checking back for more details.  Menu and times will be posted by Monday, 1/30/12

Ok, so here’s some genuine insight into why I love my gig!!

Recently, during a late night going through e-mails & organizing chocolate production for the next day, I happened to have a random TV station playing for background noise. The movie airing was “Fred Claus”.  Not an academy nominee but it featured Vince Vaughn..Holiday fluff… How bad could it be?

Basic Theme: Santa’s in trouble, his n’er-do-well Brother, Fred, finds holiday cheer and saves the day… Here’s where the metaphor kicks in..

Although I love them for doing what they do, as a grown-up I’ve often pondered why Santa and the Elves bust their humps like they do? Especially for a sometimes ungrateful world….  At the end of this movie my question was answered and I saw the payoff!!  It made me think about my own wonderful life.  Let me backtrack…

In this movie, once Santa makes his return to the North Pole, after all the Christmas presents are delivered, Santa and all the Elves gather around a giant snow-globe.  The globe (a complete invasion of privacy but go with me on this one) is showing magnificent scenes of various Christmas mornings around the world.  They watch (again, kinda’ creepy) as delighted gift-openeners get their most wished for present.

The Elves are truly touched. That was their payoff. Their hearts were obviously singing from the good deeds they had done and the joy they put into the world!

I was lucky to find my passion early in life, and even luckier to be given the opportunities to pursue it.  Thinking of JIMMIE’S chocolate truffles being enjoyed at your Christmas Table, or our chocolate dipped apricots being enjoyed when you celebrate the lighting of your family’s Hanukah Menorah, or our dark chocolate truffle and champagne being savored as indulgent ways to ring in the New Year..  Those thoughts are big parts of my personal payoff…  Doing what I love, and by the “doing” bringing a smile to a person’s face.. My heart is singing too!

Being a small, special part of your holiday season is…. Well… Extra chocolate shavings on my chocolate truffle-of-a-life!

I’m blessed to make a living doing what I love.  You, JIMMIE’S guests, patrons, Team, friends and family all make that blessing possible.
